November Starts Our Holiday Season and There is Much Going On!

It has been a while since the newsletter has been updated and I apologize for that but here is the latest:

* Go Ministries (Guatemala Outreach)is a ministry that serves orphans and extremely poor families in Guatemala. It is our adopted mission along with some others and we are excited to participate in it. Our students and their families donated, collected and gathered change and dollars from the beginning of the school year until now and collected a total of $425.00. We are so proud of everyone that participated. The school agreed to match that amount and when Master Sgro (karate grand master and Christian missionary)visited Christian Home Academy, he shared video and photos showing where and how our funds were put to use helping many. We sent him on his way with a check for $850.00 to help with supplying Christmas presents to orphans in Guatemala (it only takes $5.00 to provide a child with presents). 170 orphans who otherwise would receive nothing at Christmas will now receive Christmas presents because of our students, staff and families. Thanks be to God and all of our families for this blessing to the less fortunate. With each of these presents will be included a copy of the Gospel in their native language. Miss Amanda's class won the contest for raising the most money for Go Ministries and will be receiving a special party in their honor.

* We held our yearly fall festival on Friday October 28 and it was a great success. For most of the day, students played games, ate treats and generally had a good time. We had planned for a large inflatable obstical course/double slide but because of the rain that morning the company we contracted did not want to put it up as it wouldnt have been safe.

* A reminder about November 7th, there is no school. All of our teachers and staff will be in Orlando attending yearly Accelerated Christian Education training. This is one of the ways our staff stays current on the latest knowledge bases and technologies for being the best we can be. Pray for us as we travel.

* November 9th is school picture day. Have students looking their best and if you would like a family photo done as well, our photograpers will be happy to accomodate you. The school picture order form should be filled out returned to the office or the teacher as soon as possible. Also, our yearbooks are being ordered and again this year we are taking a step of faith and ordering yearbooks for everyone. They are going to be a step up from last years (which were pretty nice). Please order a yearbook for your family. This is a chance to support your school.

* On a financial note, a lot of our students are attending Christian Home Acadmey on the McKay Scholarship. These scholarships are based on a percentage of what is spent in the public school per student. We generally receive about 75% of what is paid for each student in the public schools. This year McKay cut back the amount of each scholarship because of the cuts in the public schools. The basic scholarship was cut about $700.00 per student. That was a big unexpected hit for the school. As you know, unlike most private schools, we accept the basic McKay scholarship without asking for the student families to pay the difference between the scholarship and the actual tuition. We are a ministry here and we strive to keep the tuition low so more families can affort to attend. Our services will not be reduced or cut back, however, when we do fund raising to assist with various activities (like our yearbook and pictures etc), your participation is an important blessing that we cannot afford to be without. Please participate to your utmost when we do these fundraisors, especially in these lean times. Enough already with the money stuff!

* We are blessed to have students that will volunteer to serve others when needed. We had many students show up to help Asbury United Methodist Church to unload pumpkins for the pumpkin patch. It was very hard work and our students and some parents handled it like pros. We are rewarding all of our volunteer students with their own pizza party. Thanks again to all the volunteers! We had another group of students volunteer to load and spread mulch on our fenced in playground at the school. Another hard work project handled wonderfully by our student volunteers. They also will be having their own pizza party as a way of saying thanks for their hard work. At Christian Home Academy we try to foster a spirit of serving others to the glory of God. Our students show our efforts are working.

School has started and week one is a success!

Week #1 at Christian Home Academy has come and gone. What a blessing it is serving Jesus at C.H.A. There are several changes from last year that I want to share. These are changes for the better we believe.

* School hours are 8:30am until 3:00pm.

* Pickup procedures are as follows:
Park in the parking spaces in front of building. Staff is no longer using those spaces for parking to make them available for parents. Please make sure you park in a designated parking space. Come to the front door (closest to the front offices). Please do not use the side door for pickup. The pickup change is an attempt by the school to be a safety improvement.

* Drop off procedures(morning)are as follows:
Side Door is opened at 8:20am. Once your student enters the building, it is safe for you to depart. Please do not drop off your student and leave untill they have entered the building as they will be unsupervised outside. Side door remains open until 8:35am. After that all drop offs will be at the front door. If you need before care, it is available for a fee and the students will be indoors. We live in a fallen world and we want to ensure the safety of all students at all times.

* All extra activities will begin September 6th (karate, art, music tutoring). This gives us time to evaluate and organize all academic issues first.

* A reminder about cell phones and all other electronic devices: Cell phones, Ipods, MP3 players etc are not allowed in the students possesion during school hours. Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school but they must
turn them in to the teacher upon arrival and may pick them up upon departure. Students that fail to turn them in will be in violation of school policy and subject to disciplinary action. Parents please help us with this.

* All Friday food orders must be paid on Thursdays. The students pick what they want on Wednesdays and bring money on Thursdays.

* Friday is dress down day and there is a dress code for dress down. Jeans (with no holes or tears) are allowed. Baggy jeans or pants and jeans that hang down past the waist will not be appropriate for dress down. If a student repeatedly has to be addressed about dress down, that student will not be allowed to dress down in the future. Dress down is not a right but a privilege. Shirts may not have graphics with one exception. Christian t-shirts or polos are alowed. Patriotic t-shirts are allowed, however it must be strictly patriotic. Shirts that combine patriotic themes with other subjects will not be allowed. Examples of this might be a secular music band with a flag also on it or believe it or not, we once had a student wear a Jack Daniels shirt with a flag on it saying it was patriotic. The principal reserves the right to make final decisions on any clothing issues. If a shirt is deemed to be not for C.H.A., the student will be directed to turn the shirt inside out for the remainder of the day. Girls may wear capris. Jean shorts are not allowed. All shorts must be finger tip length. Skirts are not allowed but skorts are.

* We will be selling school spirit t-shirts in the month of September and Wednesdays will be school spirit day every week. Students may wear their school spirit t-shirts on those days instead of their regular uniform shirts. The t-shirt sale will be a fundraiser for field trips. The more t-shirts we sell, the better the field trips we can take.

* Diagnostic testing has been going on all week and should be finished by end of day on Friday, August 19th. Remember, that the initial testing is a starting point and the staff will be continuing to diagnose appropriate levels for each student as the first few weeks of school continue. If you desire to discuss the testing results or process, please call to schedule a conference.

* I hope all the rule explaining hasn't been too tedious but it is important that we all stay on the same page to avoid misunderstandings and confusion. We all believe that this is going to be a great year for the school and the students and it is our desire that the Lord direct us and guide us as we work through each day. Our staff starts every day with prayer and Bible study and we ask that you pray for us often. May God bless your families.

School starts on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

The Staff and Administration at CHA are very much looking forward to serving your students and families in the upcoming year. We will be praying individually and corporately for God's favor in the coming year.
New parent orientation (parents only) is on Saturday, August 13th, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the school. This is an important meeting for the parents of new students.
Place shirt orders by August 1st. All parents please contact the school to place your order so they will arrive in time for the start of school on August 16th.

We are so looking forward to the upcoming year.

The End of the School Year is Approaching

Things have been happening at CHA the last few weeks and I want to share some of them with you.

Our school field day has been changed to Thursday April 21, 2011 instead of April 15. If you would be interested in helping us on that day, please call the office. We could use some help.

We are going to have a summer school program in June, July and August. It will be starting at 6am and ending at 6pm. Academic work will be from 9am until 3pm. Parents may bring and pick up students at any time that works best for you during the 6 to 6 time period. Monday thru Thursday will be academic work and Fridays will be field trip day every week. The cost will be $495.00 per month (multi child discounts are available) and will include everything except some field trips may require students to bring some money. Call the office if you have any questions about the summer program. This will be a great opportunity for students to either catch up or get ahead with their studies. All work done during the summer program will count toward 2011/2012 school year for credit and awards.

We had 19 entries in the Clay County Fair Art Contest and we recieved 8 awards for our entries. Our students did fantastic and we are so proud of them. All the award winners received cash awards as well and all of our student award winners donated all their winnings to Guatemala Outreach Ministries for our sister school in Guatemala. Praise God! Their donations totaled $100.00.

During our fundraisor for Mr. Sgro's ministry (Guatemala Outreach) the students and staff raised $400.00 which CHA matched and we were able to donate $800.00 to our sister school in Guatemala (Patochle Elementary). Our students are learning to give to and to help others less fortunate and share the love of God.

SAT testing will be taking place during the month of May for all students that are required to take the test. We will be notifying those that are required during the next few weeks.

We will be having an end of the year school banquet on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 6pm at IHOP on Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park. We will have the entire place reserved for CHA that night. Every student will be receiving recognition for their work and all awards will be given out that evening. Keep watch for the flyer that will be coming in the next couple weeks.

Christian Home Academy has been blessed in so many ways and we can see the Lord's hand at work througout our school. We have students making outstanding progress both academically and spiritually. Our staff has been great and there are a few items I want to share with everyone:

We held our first (of many) Parent Advisory Group meetings and it was a great time of fellowship and an opportunity for the school to hear ideas for improvement. We believe in continuous improvement at the school and we received several very good suggestions to make Christian Home Academy a even better place for kids. Some of the ideas involved things like :

            Improved student pick up procedure
            Instituting a mid term grade report with important details
            Starting the National Beta Club at CHA
            Beginning a sports program
            Getting parents more involved

We will be continuing the Parent Advisory Group meetings and inviting different parents to attend each time. We believe that when a school stops looking for ways to improve, they stop improving.

We are excited about a new endeavor CHA is starting. We will be adopting an impovershed school in Guatemala as a sister school and we will be communicating and supporting them on a long term basis. Grandmaster (Tang Soo Do) David Sgro will be coordinating our efforts as he is a full time missionary in Guatemala with primary emphasis on the poverty stricken and orphans. Our sister school is in dire need of funds to help bring students (that otherwise could not even attend school) to get an education. We believe that our students here at CHA will gain an understanding of service to others in need as well as learn to appreciate what a blesssing it is to attend a school like CHA. It costs only $50.00 a year for a child to atend school in this area of Guatemala and even so, most children cannot atttend due to a lack of money. The average family in Guatemala lives on less than $2.00 a day. That is right, I said two dollars a day. We will all be blessed to be a part of this mission. "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27 NKJ).

Grandmaster Sgro will be arriving from Guatemala at CHA on April 7th and will be conduting our chapel services that day and presenting video and powerpoint presentations about our sister school and the new mission work we will be taking on. We are honored to be able to be part of this and encourage our students and our students' families to help us in the fund raising effort. The school will be matching dollar for dollar everything we raise from students, families, staff and friends in this effort.

We would like to thank everyone for their cards, letters and love as our family personally dealt with the loss of Lynne's sister Judy this past month. We appreciate all the prayers. One of the things that makes this a lot easier for Lynne is during her visit to her sister in New York this past October, Judy Ralston accepted the Lord Jesus as Lord of her life. What a blessing!

This has been an especially difficult time as we also mourn the loss of the founder of Christian Home Academy, Judy Sperry. Judy Sperry was a very godly woman and gave her all to establish this school and nurture the children for the first eight years of it's existance. She has gone on to be with the Lord and our prayers go out to Mark (her husband) and Austin (her son). May God bless both of you.

Easter break will start on Friday March 18th and we will return to school on March 28th. We wish everyone a wonderful time with family and friends during this break.

We will be going on a school field day for grades 2 through 12 on April 15th at the park. We will be grilling outside and playing various sports activities and generally just having fun and fellowship. Any parents interested in particiapting and helping on this trip will be welcome and appreciated.

Friday, December 17th, school gets out at 12:00 and there is no after care on that day. School staff will be leaving the campus for a Christmas get together and lunch. Please be sure to pickup your students on time.

School will be out for Christmas vacation from 12/17/2010 at 12:00 pm until Wednesday 1/5/2011.

School spirit t-shirts will go on sale right after vacation. This will be a fund raising event, so please be sure to buy a t-shirt during the sale. The students can wear their shirts on Wednesdays instead of their uniform shirts. Help us promote school spirit!

As we approach the celebration of the birth of Jesus, let us be careful not to fall into the trap of behaving as the unbelievers do. As christians, this is a day that we have chosen to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The Word became flesh and came to dwell with us, that God himself, might give himself for us to prevent us from recieving what we deserve. The wages of sin is death and we all are sinners. But now we are saved by GRACE. The unbelieving world's focus is on Christmas trees and Santa and lights and greenery even to the point of not mentioning Jesus at all! Let us be different in the way we approach this celebration. Keep the primary focus, on how "The Word became flesh" and let Christmas be a day of gratitude for God so loving the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have evelasting life. God became flesh and suffered to save us! Take Christ out of Christmas? Let's be real. Do we take the United States out of of the 4th of July celebration? Do we remove our own name from our own birthday celebrations? No one can take Christ out of our Christmas celebration unless we allow it to happen in our own homes. Parents and guardians; you keep pespective on what this celebration is about and teach the children what this is about, not just with your words, but with your actions as well. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you all the days of your life and give you peace.

Thanksgiving is just about here!

Don't forget, Thanksgiving week 11/22 thru 11/26, there is no school.

School pictures will be in before Christmas break. If you haven't ordered school pictures but would like to get them, please call Gary or Lynne even if it is a financial issue. If finances have prevented you from ordering, we will work out a payment plan specifically for you. Pictures and yearbooks can be such great keepsakes. It is the goal of our school to provide help whereever we can for our families.

We are hoping that our "School Spirit" T-Shirts will be in before Christmas break as well. Keep watch for news regarding the shirts.

Finally, Lynne and I want to thank all the staff and parents that have helped us try to accomplish what God has called us to do here at CHA. God's hand has been on this school in every thing we have tried to do. We see it and even despite our mistakes, He continues to bless us and this school. We love what we do! May your Thanksgiving holiday be full of thanks to God and may the power of Jesus deliver you from all the attacks of the enemy. Amen.

Operation Christmas Child

Christian Home Academy has a strong committment to missions. We teach and encourage our students and staff to support missions around the world and at home. In the past and currently we support Voice of the Martyrs, Guatemala Outreach, and many local church missions. Currently we are involved with Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. We are supplying Christmas shoe boxes filled with gifts for orphans and children in need. For most of these children, these are the only gifts they will see at Christmas. We ask each parent to supply one shoe box with small toys and other gifts for either a boy or a girl. Our goal is to provide 100 gift boxes. Please prayerfully consider sending one or more of these boxes to school by November 15th in order to bless these children and at the same time helping us to teach your students the value of helping those in need. Reach out with the love of Jesus. You and your child will be blessed by this!

Remember there is no school on Veterans' Day, November 11 and there is no school from November 22 thru November 26 for Thanksgiving break.

The teachers and staff of Christian Home Academy wish you and your families a blessed Thanksgiving celebration, and a reminder that we have much to be grateful to God for. Most of the world lives on less than two dollars a day and the primary goal of every day is to get enough food to survive. How blessed are we, that our biggest concerns are more oriented towards comfort rather than survival. The Lord has blessed us to live where we live and to have the luxuries that we have. To God be the Glory, Amen.

November is here, the year is just flying by!

Thanksgiving is approaching quickly and I would like to remind everyone that Thanksgiving should be everyday. We need to be grateful for all that God has done, is doing and will do in the future for His children. Lynne and I are so blessed to be able to work for the kingdom here at CHA. A few points to remember :

Friday, November 5, 2010 is a student holiday. All teachers and staff will be in training at the ACE convention in Orlando. This is great training, fellowship and worship that will make all the staff at CHA better prepared to minister to your students.

We would like to welcome a new member of our staff, Mr. Robert Dyer. Robert is a certified teacher and will be in the fourth and fifth grade class. Robert has been a teacher for 10 years in private schools and will be a strong spiritual leader for the group.

A reminder that Veterans' day, November 11th is a student holiday and November 22nd thru 26 there is no school for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our fall festival was a big success and all of our students had a blast. A special thanks to all those who contributed to the day.

Last but not least, our Novermber field trip is to the Channel 4 newsroom. It will be broke up into two groups. One group will go on November 10th and another will go on November 17th. Remember parents will not have to sign permission forms for each field trip as a form covering all field trips was signed during registration.

Picture Day, Yearbooks, Karate Tournament and More

If you haven't heard yet, picture day was on Tuesday, October 12th. Every student had their picture taken and parents may order picture packages and/or yearbooks through the end of October. If you did not receive the order form and announcement, please give us a call at the school (276-3339) so we can get you one. We are using new people for the pictures and yearbook and we are delighted to see that the pictures and hardcover yearbooks will be the very best quality and very reasonably priced. Please get your orders in promptly as this supports our school extra activities like field trips and special events.

Remember to keep an eye on the school calendar so you will be aware of holidays and events upcoming.

Our picture makeup day is Tuesday, October 26 and if you would like a special picture taken, possibly your student and their teacher or if you have more than one student at the school and you would like a photo with both of them, please let us know and we will try to make that happen on makeup day.

We have an ice cream plant field trip coming up on Wednesday October 20th for all students. They will make ice cream and of course eat ice cream. In November we are traveling to the Channel 4 newsroom to learn how the news is produced and broadcast. Both of these trips will be informative and fun for the students. Stay tuned for specific dates.

During the week of October 25 thru the 29th, Karate will be moved to Tuesday so our photographers can take some Karate photos for the yearbook. Karate students please bring your uniforms (remember, no uniform, no karate).

And speaking of karate; several of our students competed in a karate open tournament on Saturday October 9th that involved karate students from 6 different studios. Our students competed well and took many medals. We are so proud of their efforts. Robert and Kevin Gines won multiple medals in forms competition, non contact sparring and contact sparring. Olivia Ayers won awards as well. Riley Butler competed extremely well and received commendation from Mr. Gary. Cheryl Doroski (teacher) and Lynne Lenzi (Vice Principal) also competed in the black belt division and performed wonderfully and received medals. Congrats to all who participated. It takes courage to perform under pressure in events like these and is a great learning experience.

Karate Grandmaster and full time Christian Missionary Visits CHA

David Sgro, is visting Christian Home Academy on Friday October 1st 2010. Mr. Sgro has sold everything and he and his family have moved entirely by faith to be full time missionaries in Guatemala. Below is a little bio on Grandmaster (Tang So Do) Sgro. While he is here he will be giving his testimony to our students and working with our Karate Ministry both at CHA and at our other Karate Ministry at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Southwest campus. Parents are invited to attend Friday night at Evangel Temple S.W. campus at 6:30 and all karate students are welcome to attend as well. The address is 5040 County Rd. 218, Middleburg, FL 32068 (directly across the street from Wilkinson Jr. High.

Guatemala update:
We moved here mid June. We drove from Fayetteville, NC to Miami, FL. we bought “One Way” tickets here. Now, imagine as you are packing to move to a Guatemala and shortly before you move the country has, in 1 week, a Volcanic Eruption that blankets volcanic ash onto my new front porch, an earthquake, and a tropical storm that dumps 36 inches of rain in one hour?

Imagine you move there and 150 ft of the retaining wall around your home has collapsed and you have to stay in a hotel for 2 days because the 6 units in front of you are flooded with over 3 feet of water in their first floor, but your unit isn’t affected?!? Imagine 3 months later (last week) there was a major drug bust where Cops and Soldiers had a 30 minute shoot out that occurred IN THE SAME LOBBY that you and your children stayed in just 3 months earlier.

Imagine that you went to visit Antigua with your family to visit the market and on the way home the road was cut off by a landslide, so you had to take an alternate route home. Later that exact same route that you took home became International News when an Avalanche swallowed a bus killing over 50 people.

That is just some of the major ways God has been protecting us and guiding us here in the last 3 months!

Bio: Grandmaster David Sgro:

Kwan Jang Nim, which means School Founder or Grandmaster, is a 7th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do (Dan #22923); a 5th Degree Black Belt in Japanese Ju-Jitsu; a Certified Arnis/ Kali/Escrima Instructor; a 2 Stripe Blue Belt from Royce Gracie in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; and the Creator of FIGHT CUT (Fully Integrated Grappling & Hitting Techniques, Close Up Techniques) which is a Military Combatives System taught to thousands of soldiers including the US Special Forces (Green Berets) and the 82nd Airborne (Ft Bragg, NC). KJN Sgro was a long time student of KJN Charles Ferraro (Kwan Jang Nim and Founder of Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan), who was a great influence and life mentor. KJN Sgro was also highly influenced on a technical level by KJN HC Hwang (Grandmaster of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan; Dan #509). KJN Sgro has had many wins at National & International competitions and was Coach for Team USA (1999 London, 2001 Athens, 2002 Holland, 2003 London, 2006 Athens, 2007 USA).

KJN Sgro is currently a student of KJN Song Ki Kim, Founder of the World Dang Soo Do Union (Dan #312). "Grandmaster Kim is very humble and an accomplished teacher who is relatively unknown here in the US," says Sgro, "but as it has been said that you know a tree by its fruits." Grandmaster Kim has produced many well known amazing martial artists. His students include a long list of Who's Who in Tang Soo Do not the least of which is Chuck Norris (Dan #2819).

First Newsletter and Announcements

With this, our first newsletter of the year, we have much to talk about. First, we would like to welcome all of our new students and returning students. We appreciate the trust you have placed in us and we will strive to give your students the very best in Christian education.

• Please visit our website once a week (www.Christianhomeacademy.info) and click on either calendar or news blog to keep aware of upcoming events, deadlines and school holidays etc. If you visit once a week there will never be a reason to be uniformed about anything related to the school.

• Our extra services will be starting this week including private tutoring, art, karate, music, and all the rest. If we overlook something that your student should be receiving, please call the school so we can correct it quickly.

• We will start taking yearbook orders on September 15th and stop taking orders on October 27th. The yearbooks will cost $30.00 and must be paid at the time of the order. This year the yearbooks will be hardcover with full glossy color pages. This is a great keepsake and an excellent way to support your school and encourage school spirit.

• School pictures are scheduled for October 12th with a makeup day on October 16th. More details will be forthcoming.

• Our weekly chapel services will be starting this week. This week it will be on Thursday, however, in the future, the day of the week will be determined by the speaker’s schedule. We invite pastors and speakers from the Christian community to speak at our chapel services and we need to be mindful of their schedules.

• Our Friday lunch “order-out” program is going well. We would like it if you could send their Friday lunch money with your child on Thursday. Some of our lunch providers need 24 hour notice for orders.

• These newsletters in the future will be put on the website, so if you do not have internet access, please let the school know so we can make arrangements to get them to you.

Welcome to Christian Home Academy 2010/2011

The new school year has started, we are now in our 4th week of school, Praise God! The summer seemed very short. We are starting our year with 60 students and 1/3 of our students are first year students. On behalf of all the staff and management at Christian Home Academy (CHA), we would like to welcome all of our new families and our returning families. It is our primary desire that all that we do is pleasing to God and that He would bless our school and all the families associated with this ministry. Our newsletter is new starting this year and we hope that everyone will make use of it to stay in tune with events and issues that effect the school and students. Let us take this opportunity to welcome also the newest member of the CHA teaching staff, Mrs. Tammy Purvis. The Karate for Christ International/Christian Home Academy (KFCI/CHA) is a certified school with an exciting ministry, teaching Tang So Do (Korean Karate). Fitness, self-

control, and discipline are stressed throughout the program, but make no mistake about it; this program’s ultimate goal is to make disciples for Jesus Christ. Our students are trained to be as skilled with their martial arts as students in traditional class settings. Trainees build confidence as they learn about fighting, while at the same time learning the value of relying on the “Armor of God” and abstaining from violence.

Because we approach this from a Christian perspective, we only teach the physical discipline, mental discipline and scriptural discipline and eliminate any form of Asian my

sticism that sometimes is associated with the martial arts in the secular world. We are a certified school sanctioned through Karate for Christ International and Master Gary Lenzi is our certified black belt instructor. Each time a student tests for the next level belt, they are required to perform all the physical requirements for that level in addition to specific scripture assignments, and of equal importance, express an understanding of
